It may be time to start planning if you want to sell this spring!
The holidays have come to an end and Spring is fast approaching. People will be starting in on their spring cleaning and now is a great time to consider upgrading to a new home. Whether you are welcoming a new member to the family or the kids are going to be taking off for college soon, there comes a time when we need change. Maybe you would like to relocate to a new neighborhood to be closer to work or family. Whatever the reason, here are some tips to help you get the most from your current home.
Tip # 1: Clean Up
Perhaps the easiest and most obvious tip. Make sure your home is clean and clutter free, inside and out. As potential buyers pull up to your home that first impression is always the most important. Make sure your lawn is looking it’s best! Be sure to trim any overgrown shrubbery, maybe plant a few flowers along the walkway to give your home a little more curb appeal.
Cleaning and de-cluttering inside is also incredibly important. Consider putting some of your stuff in storage and arranging your furniture so that it highlights the great layout of your home. Packing up some of your more personalbelongings not only gives you a head start on the move when the time comes, but it also gives your home a more neutral feeling and it can be easier for potential buyers to envision themselves living there.
Tip # 2: Update Hardware and Fixtures
As the years go by, trends change. If you still have the original lighting fixtures and hardware throughout your home, it might be time for a change. You don’t have to go crazy and spend tons of money on these upgrades. Maybe swap out some of the lighting fixtures in the main areas of the home, focusing on the living room, dining room, kitchen and bathrooms. Adding new drawer pulls in the kitchen or new doorknobs throughout your home (if needed) can help make your home more sellable.
Tip #3: Let it Shine
Make sure your windows are clean and open up those curtains! Buyers love a home with good lighting. You can also change out light bulbs to a higher wattage to ensure your home is nice and bright.
Tip #4: A Fresh Coat of Paint
Do you have any bedrooms or accent walls that might need updating? Even though wall color is an easy fix, some homebuyers have a hard time seeing past a lime green bedroom or a red accent wall. Choose neutral colors that brighten up the room and could work with a variety of furniture styles and colors.
Tip #: Kitchen Upgrades Payoff
If you don’t have the money to put into all new stainless steel appliances consider, you can start with a little paint, new cabinet hardware or even adding a tile backsplash. Kitchens are one of the big selling point of a home, make sure yours is up to date! Remodeled kitchens and bathrooms can have a huge impact on the price tag of your home.
