Pantone’s 2017 color of the year is perfect!
Every December, in the midst of the holiday festivities, Pantone announces their color of the year. Color lovers everywhere have an extra holiday in the mix when the newest color is announced.
Last year, Pantone gave us a surprise and announced two hues for us to love in 2016: Serenity and Rose Quartz. Both of these colors are soft and delicate, they remind me of soft cotton candy clouds and baby unicorns.
Before that we had Marsala, a muddy burgundy, and even further back we had Radiant Orchid, Emerald and Tangerine Tango and basically a long list of delightfully bright colors to oooo and ahhh over. So that makes us wonder which direction they will go for the new year 2017.
Drum roll please………………. Greenery! The 2017 Color of the Year is PANTONE 15-0343 Greenery, which the company describes as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.”
I personally am quite excited about this color, it is lively, vibrant, confident, and hopeful. Greenery is exactly what the world needs right now. 2016 was a rough year throughout the world and as we start to see this bright shade show up in stores, magazines and online we can be reminded of the optimism it holds. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute feels similarly:
Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we all collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.
Now, this new color might seem a bit bright for interiors at first, but remember that green is nature’s neutral. We might already have a lot of this color in our homes with decorative plants, terrariums, or even living walls and this trend of bringing the outdoors inside doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
If you don’t have any of this vibrant and cheerful hue in your home yet, it might be a good time to bring some in according to precisionintermedia.com. Green is the color of nature, growth and money. It is a calming color and pleasing to the senses. It is the traditional color of peace, harmony, comfortable nurturing, support and well-paced energy. Adding little bits of greenery (alive or just the color) can actually improve self-esteem, reduce anxiety and heighten awareness of one’s surroundings. Having some green around your home is starting to sound like a pretty great idea, huh?
Eiseman makes some pretty brave statements about this courageous hue:
The tangy yellow-green speaks to our desire to express, explore, experiment and reinvent, imparting a sense of buoyancy. Through its reassuring yet assertive vibrancy, Greenery offers us self-assurance and boldness to live life on our own terms, during a time when we are redefining what makes us successful and happy.
I personally can get behind the color of self-assurance and boldness, but what do you think of Greenery? Are you excited to add a bit of Greenery to your life, or will you be waiting for the next color of the year?
